About

Eastside Arthouse has a vision for East Austin that desires to be both salt and light. We have been blessed with an old church building in the heart of the Eastside that is not only our worship space, but also a place for the community. At Eastside Arthouse we are passionate about meeting the physical, spiritual and cultural needs of our eastside community, in word and deed; we like to call it Word & Work. If your interested in joining the conversation and/or helping in our planned art, music, film and mercy events contact us.

Join us every Sunday at 11am

where we strive to answer the question “What do you mean by the Gospel?”

Okay for real now, what are you?

Okay, so, here’s the best way to describe us: Eastside Arthouse is a church on mission, a church that is for East Austin where God has placed us; transforming East Austin, empowered by the Gospel. — try that on.

We are called to be “for” East Austin, called to embrace it and yet maintain our distinctiveness as the church (see what Jesus had to say about the church), not against East Austin, thus losing our relevance; nor are we above it, claiming some “super-spiritualized” life that we lose point of contact. We are called to engage the culture; in order to transform it (inspired by Keller’s  “The Missional Church”).

When we speak of culture in its broadest sense, we are speaking about the sum total ways of living that shape (and also are shaped by) the continuing life of a group of human beings from generation to generation. We are speaking about the language that enables them to grasp, conceptualize, and communicate the reality of their world; about law, custom, and forms of social organization, including marriage, family, and agriculture. These things shape the life of each member of the society. They are also shaped, modified, and developed from generation to generation by the members of the society. From the point of view of the individual member they are given as part of the tradition into which he or she is born and socialized. But they are not changeless absolutes.” – Lesslie Newbigin
